My Process

Conveying the design process can be challenging for those not directly involved. The journey from research to final design involves numerous challenges often overlooked. While people focus on the end result, they often miss the decisions and insights behind it. My approach demystifies design through Discovery, Definition, Design, and Delivery.

Step One

Discovery

Here is where I seek to understand the problem space, gather insights, and explore a wide range of ideas. I've led activities such as user research, market analysis, and brainstorming sessions to help align everyone on the true problem we're trying to solve.

Step Two

Definition

After discovery, we can define the specific problem or opportunity based on the informed insights and themes. This phase involves synthesizing information, identifying patterns, and framing the design challenge. I can start to form hypotheses which allow me to create and experiment with ideas quickly.

Step Three

Design/Ideation

Now comes the opportunity to generate ideas to show “How” I plan on to solve the problem we’re setting out to achieve. The goal here was to cast a wide net and see what solutions seemed feasible and get conversations started. My confidence usually matches the fidelity of the prototype. Starting with a thick sharpie sketch is my go to as you can see in some of my most recent case studies.

Step Four

Delivery

This is where the chosen solution is refined, developed, and prepared for implementation. This includes detailed design, testing, and preparing the product for launch. At this phase I love working closely with my engineer partners to ensure a seamless handoff.
